data protection officer (DPO)

What is a DPO?

Under the GDPR, you must appoint a DPO if you are a public authority or body, your core activities require large scale, regular and systematic monitoring of individuals or your core activities consist of large scale processing of special categories of data or data relating to criminal convictions and offences.

It is considered good practice to appoint a DPO if you process personal data and you want to ensure that your business is complying with GPDR /  Data Protection law, even if you are not required to appoint one.

Why use an outsourced dpo?

There are various benefits in using an outsourced DPO.

  • Cost effective solution, as opposed to hiring someone full time or upskilling internally
  • Provides expertise, through qualified consultants
  • Independence provided by a third party which avoids internal politics or conflicts of interest
  • Up to date on the changing world of GDPR / Data Protection, ensuring that you are informed straight away of any changes
  • Keeps your business on the right side of GDPR / Data Protection laws
